Erekat Praises Qatar's Support for Palestinian Cause
2012-05-30

Member of the Palestine Liberation Organisation's Executive Committee, Dr. Saeb Erekat, who is also Head of the Palestinian delegation to the final status negotiations, praised the State of Qatar's firm stance in its quest to reach a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue thanks to the wise leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
In remarks he gave to Qatar News Agency (QNA) Wednesday on the sidelines of the US-Islamic World Forum, being held in Doha from May 29 to 31, Erekat stressed the importance of the national reconciliation that have been reached after the signing of the Doha Agreement last February under the auspices of the State of Qatar, adding that without the reconciliation, "We cannot take a step forward in any of our national strategy" where there is no focal point for President Mahmoud Abbas only the national reconciliation.
Regarding the role of the forum in serving the Palestinian issue, Dr. Erekat expressed his belief that this forum is one of the most important conferences held in the Arab world, noting that the time has come to put the relationship between the United States of America, as a superpower in the world, and the Arab world in the right framework, taking into account the common interests between the two sides.
There are many common concepts that need to be reviewed and corrected, since the battle of Vienna in 1683 when the Turks laid siege to the Austrian capital for the second time and marked the end of Ottoman expansion into Europe, Erekat explained.
In this context, the Palestinian official expressed his thanks to the State of Qatar for hosting such a forum for the ninth consecutive year, describing it as one of the firm platforms to defend the Palestinian cause.
Erekat added, "We are aware of the American bias toward Israel," noting to the importance of such forums which bring together the best minds in the political and academic areas from the Arab world and the United States to work in solving the Arab-Israeli conflict and establishing two states living side by side in peace.
The Palestinian diplomat, at the end of his exclusive interview with QNA, called upon all parties to take advantage of these dialogues to determine a common ground for the interests of both parties.
