FANAR Introduces US-Islamic World Forum Visitors to Arabic Calligraphy

Qatar Islamic Cultural center FANAR has set up an exhibition within the framework of the 9th US-Islamic World Forum running now in Doha. The Exhibition was offered a unique space to feature the books it published on Islamic culture and books introducing the visitors to the arts of Arabic Calligraphy. Syrian calligrapher, Obaida Al Banki, who wrote "Mus'haf Qatar", Qatar's first printed edition of the Holy Quran, has briefed the visitors on the Arabic calligraphy, its history and how it is related to the Islamic civilization.
Among the publications of FANAR, a book introducing Islam titled "The Understanding of Islam".
Featured in in English, French, German, Spanish, Hindi, Tagalog, and Chinese languages, all the copies of the book were sold out already in the first day.
Nihad Awad, the Executive Director and co-founder of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), said he was very pleased with the way FANAR's introducing the Arabic calligraphy to its visitors, calling it a "very useful way" to introduce Islamic culture.
On this occasion, Calligrapher Obaida, spoke to Qatar news Agency (QNA) saying he was very delighted with the part he took at introducing the Islamic culture with his calligraphy of "Mus'haf Qatar".
He said the Arabic calligraphy is the way that introduces the Islamic culture and civilization to the whole world keeping in consideration Qatar's efforts to energize this art as it reflects the identity of the Islamic nation.
Obaida has also participated recently, among a collection of a highly-recohnized calligraphers, in an exhibition meant to flourish the Arabic language and is hosted by Qatar convention center from the 29th-31st of May.
